Junior chessists try for international rankings

The Trinidad and Tobago Chess Foundation will host their inaugural junior chess tournament today and tomorrow at the atrium of the Queen’s Park Plaza, Queen’s Park West, Port-of-Spain from 9 am.

The five round Swiss style tournament is internationally rated by the United States Chess Federation and provides an opportunity for local young chessists to receive an international rating without travelling abroad to participate in such events. Senior arbiter Jerry Bibuld will conduct proceedings during the course of the two days during which the first three rounds of competition are carded for 9 am to 5 pm with the remaining two rounds being played tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm. The competition is the first rated contest for young players in Trinidad and Tobago said Edison Raphael, president of the Chess Federation.
