Champs Malick advance in National Girls Intercol
DEFENDING champs Malick will be vying for a semi-final spot in the RBTT National Girls Intercol competition when they square off against El Dorado Senior in the first match of today’s doubleheader at the QRC Grounds, St Clair. The Malick girls will take to the field at 2 pm with 2002 runners-up St George’s meeting Maple Leaf in the other encounter at 4 pm. Malick romped to a 10-0 triumph over Pleasantville in the preliminary round on Thursday last with Tanekar Alexander finding the back of the net four times while fellow national player Nadia James and Asuya Gibbons each scored hat-tricks. El Dorado, led by another Trinidad and Tobago player Ayana Russell, edged Central Zone queens Union Claxton Bay 2-1 in their first round match.
Maple Leaf were 4-1 winners over Fyzabad last Thursday but will need to be at their best to stop St George’s, who cruised past Corpus Christi 3-0 on Saturday with Kermica Alexander notching a double while TT midfielder Aveann Douglas added a second-half penalty. Toco advanced to the quarters with a 10-0 drubbing of Point Fortin courtesy of a beaver-trick from Yosha Jacob, a hat-trick from Minasha Bonaparte, two from Sherva Charles and another from Jervelle King. But the Toco lasses will, at the El Dorado Secondary Grounds, face off against the highly-fancied Diego Martin Secondary, who crushed Carapichaima 16-0 in the prelims. National striker Maylee Attin-Johnson led the way with four goals, while Racine Romain netted three, Stephanie Barrow two and Shadelle Stubbs, Chantel Regis, Tyesha John, Jewel Strong, Cassandra Christopher, Nicole Roberts and Kelly-Ann Foderingham chipping in with one apiece.
Also at 3.15 pm, Moruga will oppose Providence at Skinner Park, San Fernando. Moruga trounced Matura 12-0 in the prelims while Providence eliminated Arima Senior by an 8-0 margin.
