Rename Wrightson Road Ramjit Kumar Ave

A monument should be erected in his honour in the form of Mr Kumar wearing a cork hat and riding his horse just as he did in 1931 whilst he was assistant superintendent commanding a battalion of over 200 national police officers. I hold Mr Kumar in very high regard for his contribution to Trinidad.

The late, the Honourable Mr Ramjit Kumar was the first East Indian from India to serve as a Member of Parliament. Mr Kumar, a brilliant engineer who held a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University in England had recommended to the Government that they should build a dual carriageway and run the necessary infrastructure underground such as cables for electricity and water mains. He had a very difficult task of convincing the then political administration of the success of such a magnificent project which involved what seemed impossible at the time the largest land reclamation project undertaken in the north-west region of Trinidad. After much deliberation and persistence on the part of Mr Kumar the approval was granted and construction commenced just after World War two. The road was completed in the late 1940s and is now known as “Wrightson Road.”
