Horticultural society knocks balisier destruction
The cutting and destruction of the Balisier plant in the forested areas of the Trinidad and Tobago is proving to be of grave concern to horticultural enthusiasts throughout the country.
Speaking with Newsday, President of the Horticultural Society, Sundar Seecharan said “The destruction of large amounts of the Balisier flower at the campaigns is heart-breaking. Not only is the natural environment being affected, but the beautiful flowers, which are used by horticulturalist is becoming limited. This is causing some competition in getting these flowers for making arrangements, and other things.”
“PNM supporters should find an alternative method of showing their support. They could construct artificial flowers, or use flags to show their support,” continued Seecharan.
Seecharan added, not only was the destruction of the flower posing a problem, but the deforestation which includes the removal of large amounts of these flowers and its plants could be very destructive when the rainy season starts in June.
