Manning: Time for submission to the will of Allah
Prime Minister Patrick Manning, in his Eid-ul-Fitr message to the nation, asked for all believers in Islam to submit to the will of Allah while seeking guidance and forgiveness. “Islam is one of the oldest religious and faith-based foundations of our society, and its traditions of fasting have long been an important part of our ancestral religious and cultural legacy,” stated Manning.
He attributed the significance placed on Eid by our citizens to, “our determination to nurture a wise and progressive liberty, and an abiding love and respect for faith based institutions in our multi-religious society.” Manning highlighted the individual benefits of “Taqwa” or God-consciousness, and the collective gains of compassion towards the poor and underprivileged as playing a major role in our continued brotherhood and love in such a diverse society. He added that the maintenance of this brotherhood will ensure that we are never driven by bigotry, the will to excess and motives contradictory to our common interests as a society and nation. The Prime Minister declared, “We must embrace the spirit of reflection, discipline and goodwill this period of fasting and self-denial is aimed at inspiring, moving away from negative disaffection, needless strife, disobedience, self-seeking and self-serving indulgence at any level.”
