Fuad: TTUTA gone ‘soft’ on Hazel
BARATARIA/SAN JUAN MP Dr Fuad Khan yesterday wondered whether the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) and its president, Trevor Oliver, have “gone soft” on Education Minister Hazel Manning.
In a statement, Khan said it was clear that Manning “has been a complete failure when it comes to the administration of the education system” but Oliver appears to be “putting less pressure on Minister Hazel Manning.” The UNC MP charged that Oliver was not exerting the same pressure on Manning “as he did to any of the ministers of education (Dr Adesh Nanan, Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Ganga Singh) under the UNC.” Khan further alleged that the TTUTA president’s actions were guided by ethnic considerations and only thing saving Manning from dismissal “was because she is married to the Prime Minister.” The UNC MP reminded Oliver of his “solemn oath to protect the interests of the teachers and the students” of the nation.
