Special electors apply to vote early
Applications are to be submitted to returning officers by July 5, which is also nomination day.
According to the EBC, persons eligible to be treated as special electors include: members of the Police Service, Special Reserve Police, Estate Police, Defence Force, Prisons Service and the EBC, the Chief Election Officer, the Deputy Chief Election Officer and the Assistant Chief Election Officer, the returning officer of an electoral district if he has to vote in another district than the one he has been assigned to, a presiding officer, a deputy presiding officer, a poll clerk, a polling agent, a candidate or the candidate’s spouse, among other categories.
In the recent General Election, 16,900 special voters were allowed to cast their vote for the five days leading up to the general election date.
