Starworld dip out of football contention
W CONNECTION remained in touching distance of leaders CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, in both Senior and Under-20 divisions, of the TT Pro League.
This after a 5-0 thrashing of South Starworld Strikers in the youth encounter and a 4-0 whipping in the senior division fixture at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Balmain, Couva on Monday night. Connection are second in both divisions — with 61 points in the seniors, seven behind Jabloteh, and 63 points in the Under-20s, two adrift of the San Juan lads. But Starworld are now out of contention for the top spot in either category (41 points in the seniors and 49 in the Under-20s). In the first match on the evening, Akil Pierre gave the Savonetta lads a 1-0 lead after 14 minutes, with national Under-23 striker Jason Marcano doubling the advantage in the 31st.
An own goal by Kareem Blackman put Starworld further behind in the 77th minute and Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Kerwyn “Hardest” Jemmott (recovering from an injury) put the match beyond doubt in the 80th, while Keith Williams completed the rout in stoppage time.
Goals by midfielder Gefferson Goulart in the fifth and 20th minutes placed Starworld on the backfoot in the senior division matchup, a setback which they never recovered from. Defender Jose Luis Seabra got Connection’s third in the 50th and ex-national midfielder Arnold Dwarika put the finishing touches on a commanding performance with the fourth in the 88th.
