Gun with laser scope seized

A SOPHISTICATED semi-automatic gun outfitted with a laser scope and loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition was seized by police from a man near a known drug block in La Romaine, on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old suspect of St Joseph Street, San Fernando, was up to yesterday being interrogated by detectives of the San Fernando CID and is expected to be placed on several identification parades. The suspect was arrested while officers of the San Fernando Court and Process Division were conducting an exercise coordinated by divisional head — Snr Supt Desmond Lambert.

According to police reports, at around 5.30 pm the party of officers supervised by ASP Ramdath and including Cpl Samaroo, PCs Manwarren and Figaro spotted the suspect standing near a known drug block, at Church Street Extension, La Romaine. Police believe the suspect was guarding the area. The suspect started to run as officers approached him. The lawmen gave chase and arrested the man a short distance away. He was searched by the officers who seized the 9mm gun which was stuck in his pants waist. Investigations are continuing.
