Suspicious men escape joint police/army shootout

FOUR men acting suspiciously in the Arouca area escaped a police/army shootout.

At 8 pm on Tuesday  officers of the Inter Agency (Police/ Army) Unit were on patrol on Range Road, Five Rivers in the vicinity of the Five Rivers Junior Secondary school when they observed four men in a parked biege 323 Mazda on the road acting suspiciously. The officers signalled the men to come out of the car, but instead the occupants sped off with the officers in close pursuit.

The car swung into Khandaha Road, Cane Farm, Tacarigua and then into Bertie Street where it came to a stop. There, the men alighted, firing shots at the officers. The officers returned fire, however the men escaped into the nearby bushes. The car which is believed to be stolen was taken to the Arouca police station where it will be dusted for fingerprints. Officers of the Arouca police station are continuing inquiries.
