Grocer kills bandit in botched robbery

ONE man was killed by an Arima grocery proprietor in a botched robbery yesterday while his two accomplices escaped. At around 3.20 pm, one man entered the Ma Chin Grocery on Tumpuna Road, Guanapo, pretending to be a customer and approached proprietor Eugene Williams. Shortly after,  two other men entered the grocery and drew firearms, stating that it was a hold-up. Williams, 72, ducked behind a wall, withdrew his licensed firearm and fired two shots, forcing the bandits to retreat. The last man ran a few metres clutching the right side of his chest.

He then collapsed in front of the shop, while his partners escaped. When police arrived, they found the dead man with a bullet hole to the right side of his chest, in front of the shop. The cops seized a gun at the scene. DMO Dr Antoine arrived and pronounced the unidentified man dead and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre.
