Suspect in court for Malabar killing

A man suspected in the murder of Andrew Sutton last year at Malabar appeared in court yesterday morning charged with the killing.

Shirvan Cummings, 27, of Salamat Ali Street appeared before Arima First Court Magistrate Gail Gonzales where he was not called on to plead. Cummings is alleged to have shot Sutton at his Newton Boulevard home last year following an argument over money. Sutton is suspected to have kept the major share for the paid hit for Customs Officer Carl DeSouza one year before which did not go down well with his associates. The suspect who was held fours weeks ago following his arrival from a four-month vacation in England was re-arrested and charged following directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions. The matter was adjourned to Friday. Cpl Eric Parks laid the charge.
