Kidnapped UWI student released

TWO weeks after being abducted, 21-year-old Shane Sawh was yesterday released after relatives paid a portion of the $1 million ransom that was demanded for Sawh’s safe release. Sawh, a science student at the University of the West Indies, was dumped on a sandpit near Trinidad Cement Ltd at Claxton Bay, around 5 am yesterday. He was assisted by a motorist who took him to his home at West Boundary Road, California.

Newsday understands that Sawh’s relatives took him to a private medical centre for a medical check up and then took him home. Police sources said he did not have any physical injuries. When Newsday visited his home yesterday, relatives confirmed that Sawh was home but they refused to give any further information. Sawh, the son of Siewsaran Sawh, the proprietor of Taste and Touch Restaurant and Bar, was snatched from his yard on Thursday, December 4.
