‘Exollence 3’ at Queen’s Hall

“Exollence 3," a production under the musical direction of Desmond Waithe and the artistic direction of Davlin Thomas will be staged at the venue beginning at 6 pm.

Before the curtains raise on the performances, specially invited guests and VIP ticket-holders will be treated to light refreshments and musical entertainment by Sagicor Exodus at an exhibition in the foyer of Queen’s Hall showcasing the history of Exocubs. The exhibition will also be open for all to enjoy during the intermission.

The first half of the show will see the senior members of Exocubs in a musical play directed by Thomas. Titled Steelpan Thorugh Their Eyes, the play will use drama and music to reflect a youthful perspective on the history of the steelpan. Among the songs the young pannist will perform are “Oil and Music”, “I Want You Back”, “Yesterday”, “Ipi Ntombi and “Slave”. Guest performers will be Kevin McMayo, the Gasparillo Tamboo Bamboo Drummers, and Mavis John.

The second half of the show will focus on “The Different Moods of Exocubs.,” beginning with a performance of “Stand By Me” by pannists of groups two and three of Exocubs. The youngest members of the steel orchestra will delight the audience with “Little Drummer Boy”, “Can You Feel the Love” and “Palance”, conducted by Jamaal Lewis. Making his debut as a conductor, Devon James will lead the parents/adults group in their first ever performance, “Wavin Flag,” one of the theme songs of the 2010 football World Cup.

Under the baton of Anthony “Jugie” Rose, Group Two will perform “Black Cake and Sorrel”, “Tamboulay”, and “Bazodee”, while the seniors, conducted by Desmond Waithe, will bring down the house with a Christmas Medley, “Be Strong” and “Waka Waka”. Guest performers during this half of the concert will include vocalists Jesse Rahaman and Aaron-Mark.

The curtains will fall on the show with Group Three’s performance of “I Look To You”, featuring vocalists Jesse Rahaman and Aaron-Mark Alleyne, “You Are Not Alone” featuring guitarist Therron Shaw.
