Man beaten to death
The BLOODY body of a 40-year-old man was discovered in his wooden shack yesterday afternoon.
Jairam Boodhan, a mason, of Mathura Avenue, Charloo Village, Penal, is this country’s 223rd murder victim for this year. Police believe that Boodhan was beaten to death while drinking with some people at his home early yesterday morning. Investigators believe that Boodhan, who was a marijuana smoker, may have gotten into a heated argument with one of the men and was beaten with a piece of wood on his head. Up to late yesterday police were questioning two Penal men, ages 41 and 40, one of whom was acquitted of a murder charge a few years ago.
Around 2 pm yesterday, Boodhan’s battered body was discovered lying on its back by one of his friends who went to check on him. Boodhan lived alone in a small shack, which had no windows or doors. Neighbours told Sunday Newsday that they heard no noises coming from his shack and only knew that something had happened to him when they saw an ambulance pull up in front of Boodhan’s house. They said Boodhan always had a crowd at his home, and they usually drank alcohol and smoked marijuana. However they said Boodhan never bothered anyone in the village and they were shocked that he was murdered. His brother, Deonarine Boodhan, was not at home when Sunday Newsday visited yesterday.
