Workshop for Laventille-based groups

THE La Resource and Environs Improvement Committee (LREIC) recently hosted a workshop entitled Laventille Community Assembly for several Laventille-based organisations. The workshop was sponsored by Clico and held at the South East Port-of-Spain secondary school, the theme of which was “We can make it if we try.” Among the 14 groups participating were Laventille Council of Elders, the Mango Rose Youth Movement, Heel Enterprises, Wells of Living Waters and the Desperadoes Elders Organisation.

Facilitator at the workshop, Counselling Psychologist Anna Maria Mora together with Clico Vice President Marketing, Ian Garcia, discussed several issues, including the social problems plaguing the Laventille community, and the positive approaches to arrive at short and long term solutions. Participants were also addressed by representatives from YTEPP, the National Enterprises Development Company (NEDCO), both of which had booths at the workshop along with Cariri. Similar workshops are to be held at later dates so as to develop an overall policy plan based on community self-sustainability.
