Accused plead guilty to bush rum charges
OVER 20 gallons of “babash” (bush rum) and a rum still (makeshift distillery) were hauled into the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court yesterday as evidence against three men charged with possession of the illegal rum. Selwyn Floyd, 68, and John Blackman, 53, both of Forte George Road, Indian Walk; and Selwyn Odle, 33, of Sixth Company, Indian Walk, appeared before Magistrate Suimongol Ramsaran in the Second Court. The three men pleaded guilty to possession of the illicit spirits. Odle also pleaded guilty to possession of a still. The three spent the weekend in cells of the Princes Town Police Station after they were arrested on Saturday during an early-morning raid carried out by members of the Princes Town Task Force. The cops walked two miles into a forested area in Indian Walk where they caught Odle tending to the still, and in possession of several gallons of the “babash.”
