Traffic hiccup after new Aranjuez overpass opens
The overpass was officially opened on Tuesday by Works and Transport Minister Jack Warner.
Programme Director of the Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE) Hayden Phillip said yesterday’s traffic was a hiccup due to the Aranjuez traffic lights being removed.
“As the lights were moved, the traffic came down faster and that is what caused the bottleneck,” he said. He pointed out that road widening near the NP flyover to the Lighthouse also played a major role in the traffic.
“A third lane is being added to that road, so the works would have definitely added to the traffic but the public can expect an ease when the third lane is opened on Friday,” he said. Roger Ganesh, Director of Highways said he was pleased with the traffic flow in the Aranjuez area but observed persons were not reading the signs properly.
“I am pleased with the traffic flow out of Aranjuez, it has been excellent but I noticed persons are not reading the signs properly so we plan to improve the signage by adding a couple extra information signs,” he said.
