Corporation wants meeting on floods

THE Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Re-gional Corporation is seeking a meeting with Works and Transport Minister Franklyn Khan to discuss the ministry’s plans for the area, in terms of alleviating flooding. A letter dated December 30, 2003 requesting the meeting was sent to Khan. It was signed by acting chairman of the Corporation, Lennox Sankersingh. Sankersingh said in the letter that the Corporation had heard of plans to dredge the Caparo river as well as to construct a dam at Mamoral at a cost of $110 million. Sankersingh contends that the elaborate plans were formulated without the consultation of the Corporation and therefore the meeting was necessary for better consultation.
