TIDCO welcomes Continental airlines to Tobago
The Tourism and Industrial Development Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (TIDCO) recently hosted a welcome reception within the VIP Lounge of the Piarco International Airport for the officials of Continental Airlines who arrived on the airline’s inaugural flight on Friday December 12 2003. On hand to greet the officials were Dr Brian Harry, TIDCO President; Brian Charles, Vice President, Marketing at TIDCO and representatives from the Airports Authority of TT. In his welcome address, Dr Harry noted that the arrival of the first flight of Continental Airlines was the first fruit borne out of negotiations between Continental Airlines and TIDCO. He maintained that it was a “great leap,” drawing TT closer to achieving our nation’s mission of attaining developed nation status by the year 2020. “With flights being offered by Continental Airlines, the airlift to destination TT is improved and by extension, the number of visitor arrivals can increase further,” he said.
Brian Charles, Vice President, Marketing, TIDCO, also commented that “this is a very lucrative market in terms of mainstream US visitors out of the Eastern Seaboard states and will go a long way in developing the route.” He further added that “TIDCO will continue to work with Continental Airlines to develop and implement marketing and promotional plans.” The jovial group of Continental officials was welcomed with the sounds of live parang and samples of local Christmas cuisine, including pastelles, black cake and sorrel, while passengers clearing customs were treated to Christmas Carols on pan performed by pan legend Len “Boogsie” Sharpe. Passengers also received information and gift packages from TIDCO in commemoration of the occasion.
