Securicor man back in court on ammo charge
THE OPERATIONS manager of a security company yesterday made a second appearance before Magistrate Avason Quinlan at the Port-of-Spain Four C Magistrates’ Court to answer to a charge of possession of ammunition. His first appearance had been on Thursday.
Joseph Smith, the operations manager, cash and manned services of Securicor, was charged on Wednesday with the possession of a magazine containing 15 rounds of ammunition contrary to the Firearms Act. The charge was laid by PC Marlon Lynton of the Western Division. Smith, who operates from the company’s head office at Port-of-Spain, was represented by attorney Gilbert Peterson.
According to a release from the company, Smith was called to the St James Police Station to be updated on the status of an investigation into a report he had made on May 3, 2003. The report had been of the theft of his company car and firearm that were taken during the course of a robbery on that date. While at the police station, the release said, the charge was laid against him. He will re-appear in court on January 23.
