Dead man found in drain

The body of a man was discovered in a drain at Endeavour around 9 am yesterday morning.

The body of the man, who was of East Indian descent, medium built, about six feet tall and in brown pants and short sleeved grey jersey, was discovered in a crouched position in a drain opposite Batch Company Limited, Endeavour. Reports revealed that the man was last seen alive around 11.30 pm on Friday walking in an easterly direction along Endeavour road. Yesterday morning, a passerby saw the body in the drain which was partially filled with water. His neck appeared to be broken and there was a wound to his chin.

Scores of Endeavour villagers gathered on the scene in a bid to ascertain the identity of the man, but up until late yesterday no one had come forward to identify the body. The body was viewed by District Medical Officer, Dr Khatri, and ordered removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre. A party of officers led by Inspector Raphael, Sgt Phillips, Ag Sgt Ajith Persad and including Cpl Villafana and PCs King, Singh and Harriet visited the scene and carried out a search for clues. Several persons were interviewed and the area of the crime scene was cordoned off.

Police are treating the death as a murder until an autopsy is carried out tomorrow to determine the cause of death. Anyone with information on the identity of the man can contact the Chaguanas police station at 665-9958 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
