Deaf mute abducted, three women chopped
A DEAF MUTE woman was abducted and three women were brutally chopped in an early morning attack on a South Trinidad family yesterday. A single masked man wielding a cutlass and knife attacked while the family was asleep around 4 am, police said. Doubles vendor Molly Rangoo, 45, her daughter Sharon, 28 and daughter-in-law Cindy Rampersad, 22, were chopped and then the assailant dragged Rangoo’s other daughter, 20-year-old deaf mute Annasher, out of her bed and into a waiting car. The family reported that $500 in cash $25,000 in jewelry and were stolen from the house. The incident was witnessed by two young children.
Police described the brutal attack as highly unpredictable and senseless since it was aimed at a humble family. Rangoo was boiling channa in a large pot she placed on the back step of the family’s wooden house, but at around 4 am she left the pot boiling and went back to bed. Rampersad was asleep in a room she shares with her husband, Rangoo’s son, Sheldon, 21. Sheldon was not at home at the time. Sharon was asleep in another room with her children, Samantha, 11, and Stephen, nine and Annasher was also asleep alone in another bed. Police said that four men pulled up in a car and one of them simply walked through the back door, which Rangoo had left open. The man attacked Rangoo in bed, chopping her on the neck, chest and hands. Rampersad was next. She was also attacked as she slept and was chopped on the head and breast. She was also stabbed in the back.
According to the report, Sharon and her children woke up when the man began dragging Annasher out of her bed. She ran from her bedroom into the living room screaming and was chopped on the hands. Rangoo and her daughter-in-law Rampersad are in critical condition at San Fernando General Hospital. Sharon was treated and discharged and up to late yesterday was assisting detectives with their investigations. Members of the Anti Kidnaping Squad visited the family yesterday, but Newsday understands that CID detectives have taken over the investigation. No ransom demands have been made. Annasher, who is only able to hear very loud sounds, assisted her mother Molly in the family’s doubles stall at Dow Village junction, a stone’s throw away from their home.
