Pan Knights taking Rosie to the Savannah

WORLD renowned pannist Robert Greenidge is putting the finishing touches on two Panorama songs for this season. Greenidge, arranger for Barataria-based Solo Pan Knights, is arranging his own composition, “Rosie,” for the band to perform in this year’s competition. Several hundred pan enthusiasts heard Greenidge perform the song last year when he launched his latest CD, From The Heart. “Rosie” was released as an instrumental on the CD but Greenidge decided to put lyrics to the music. Newsday caught up with Greenidge, calypsonian Gregory “GB” Ballantyne and Ralph MacDonald at Caribbean Sound Basin working with arranger Carl Beaver Henderson. GB has written lyrics for the song and MacDonald likes what he has heard and is describing the song as a “dark horse” in the competition.
