Mother of abducted woman in hiding
MOLLY RANGOO, mother of abducted deaf/mute Annasher Rangoo, has gone into hiding after being discharged from hospital. She fears that the man who unleashed a reign of terror at the family’s South Oropouche home last Sunday, will return. Rangoo went into hiding shortly after being released from the San Fernando General Hospital on Tuesday. Rangoo, 45, her daughter Sharon, 28, and daughter-in-law Cindy Rampersad, 21, were chopped repeatedly by a man who then forced Annasher into a car and drove off. Up to yesterday, police and relatives were still trying to locate the abducted woman.
Speaking to Newsday at the family home in Dow Village, South Oropouche yesterday, Sharon said her mother didn’t want to see anyone, not even relatives, and had gone into hiding immediately after being discharged from hospital where she had been warded with chop wounds to her forearms, chest and neck. Sharon said her mother was “terribly worried” about the whereabouts and safety of Annasher, 20, and is keeping a prayerful vigil, hoping police make headway into the case. Sharon was discharged from the hospital on Sunday after being treated for severe chop wounds to her left finger where the blade of the cutlass penetrated the bone. When asked why police questioned three Venezuelan nationals in connection with Annasher’s abduction, Sharon said: “Well, they often come to the house to visit a close family member of mine and usually Annasher is at home either watching television, or up and about doing some chores.
“So I guess that is why the police would have questioned them, hoping that they would find some clue to help in the investigations.” She said there had been no ransom demand and no other progress in the search for her sister, but she was satisfied with the way the authorities were treating the matter. As she struggled to maintain her composure, Sharon said she was “hoping for the best” and that “my sister will soon be reunited with her mom and the rest of the family, alive and well.” Cindy Rampersad, 21, is still warded at the San Fernando General Hospital.
