$180,000 bail for youths on kidnap and robbery charges

THREE Penal youths charged with kidnapping and aggravated robbery of a taxi-driver were granted $60,000 bail each when they appeared before a Siparia magistrate yesterday. Simba Sylvester, 18, Joshua Parson and 20-year-old Steve Simon, all of Smart Avenue, Penal, were granted bail by Magistrate Lucina Cardenas-Ragoonanan. They are charged with kidnaping and robbing 38-year-old taxi-driver Cyrus Phagoo of $140 cash at knife point. The incident was alleged to have occurred last Friday between Rochard Road, Penal and La Brea Trace, Siparia. The trio was arrested on Friday evening and charges were laid by PC Solomon of the Siparia CID. The youths, who were represented by Ramnarine Soorjan Singh, are to reappear in court next Tuesday.
