Hinds fears he’ll miss England series
KINGSTON: West Indies batsman Wavell Hinds fears he could miss the forthcoming home Test cricket series against England. Hinds was sent home from the current tour to South Africa after suffering a groin injury and told to rest for six to 12 weeks. “After six weeks we will assess it because at that point in time it will be better to say if I will be ready for the English tour,” he said. The opening Test begins in his native Jamaica on March 11. Hinds is also concerned about his lack of form in South Africa. He failed at the top of the order in the first two Tests and was dropped down to number five for the third, when he made scores of 13 and 25.
But he refused to blame the injury, which he suffered during the opening Test, for his batting problems. “I was out of sorts — I wouldn’t put it down to the injury,” he told the Jamaica Gleaner. “I have played on those wickets before — I’ve played in Australia, which is just as bouncy, or even bouncier. “It was just a matter of not moving accordingly and (being) out of co-ordination. I think that’s something I have to adjust in the near future.” Uncapped Barbadian Kurt Wilkinson has been called up to take Hinds’ place for the one-day series in South Africa.
