Man gunned down in San Juan

Relatives of the ninth murder victim for the year are claiming the death was a case of mistaken identity. Dead is 19-year-old Dujon Warner, who was gunned down while at a friends home on Laventille Road, San Juan on Wednesday night. Reports indicate that Warner had gone to visit his friend when he was fatally shot. When Newsday visited Warner’s Frankville Lane home, also on Laventille Road, residents said Warner’s death was a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The deceased’s uncle, Keith Wilson, said he was  liming with his nephew a short while before he was attacked. Wilson said “he was here with me and then he say he going by his partner up Boothill.

“It wasn’t long after that I hear some gunshots. Then the other fellas come and tell me that Dujon get shot.” But Wilson said he is sure that his nephew is not the man they were looking for. “Dujon went to check his partner. That house had several people in it. And a certain man in that house had an altercation with one of the gangs in the area earlier that day. That is the man they were looking for.” Wilson spoke very highly of his nephew, saying he worked hard at such a tender age. “He was part of a football team in the area, Crab Connection, and he also worked at CEPEP from time to time. He did not have time for bad boy things.” At the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, Warner’s mother, Sharon Wilson, said she was still trying to come to terms with her son’s death. “He was just 19 years old and he didn’t deserve to go down like this. He get the bullet for someone else. “He was not involved in any gang. I know it have gangs in the area, two of them in particular, does have war. But he not involved in that.” An autopsy done on Warner’s body revealed that he died of shock and haemorrhage consistent with gunshot injuries. Investigations are continuing.
