Morvant man shot

A MORVANT man is recuperating at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being shot in his abdomen by an unknown attacker.

According to reports, Damien Welch, 25, was talking to a friend on Plover Road, Morvant, a few houses from his home at around 10.30 pm on Tuesday when a white Sentra B15 pulled up. A man then jumped out of the car and started firing. Welch, who was shot, attempted to run but collapsed a short distance away, while the gunman escaped in the car. The friend and other residents took the injured man to the hospital where he was warded up to press time. When contacted, police told Newsday they believe the shooting is gang-related. Morvant police are investigating.
