DEATH DANCE

A 17-year-old sign painter was stabbed to death at a house party in Arima yesterday after one of his friends danced with someone else’s girlfriend.

Keston Seebaran had gone to a house party with cousins and friends, but joy turned to sorrow when a group of youths stormed the party stabbing and chopping several persons in the house. When the attack ended, Seebaran lay dead while two others who had been chopped had to seek medical attention. A suspect was arrested trying to board the MV Panorama for Tobago. “On a day like today (Sunday) my son would have been going to the river to make a lime with his cousins and friends. Look what gone and happen now.” These were the words of grieving Deanne Seebaran shortly after she found out  her son had been stabbed to death after attending a party in the area. 

Keston, was found dead a few metres from his home early yesterday with a single stab wound to the back. According to reports, Seebaran, of Subero Street, Malabar, left home on Saturday night with cousins and friends to attend a house party at Koon Koon Street, a short distance away. Seebaran’s mother said her son left home just after ten that night to go to the party. “I did not try to stop him because he’s not the partying type of child. He never used to party much, he was just a limer. “So when he said he wanted to go, I did not try to stop him as he never used to do it often.”

The boy’s mother said she and her other six children went to bed as usual. “I was not expecting this. The police came about minutes to six this morning to tell me they found a body and asked me to come and identify it. I still did not believe that something was wrong with my son until I got there and saw his body lying on the road. My eldest boy dead.” She said she was still uncertain of what really took place, having been told that her son was at the house party when a group of young men, three of them, were trying to get into the party. She said the host of the party refused the young men entry. However the young men later returned and her son, along with two of his friends were attacked by the young men armed with knives and cutlasses.

The grieving mother could not say whether her son was attacked while in the party, or on the outside. “I don’t know if he get stab and was running home to tell me when he fell down and died. His body was so close to home,” Seebaran said. However police are  working with other theories for the attack. Sources have informed Newsday that Seebaran and his friends were attacked after one of Seebaran’s friends danced with the girlfriend of another young man. Newsday has also been reliably informed that one man has so far been held for questioning into the incident by police. The suspect was held yesterday morning while attempting to board the MV Panorama to go to Tobago.

One of the two others injured in the attack has been identified as 18-year-old Anderson Clarke, who was chopped on the hand. He was treated at the Arima Health Facility and discharged. The other teenager, Anthony Peters, is said to be warded in a stable condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after being stabbed about the body. Officers attached to the Malabar Police Station are continuing investigations.
