2 shot while playing cards

TWO men of East Dry River who were shot by two armed men on Saturday night are warded in a critical but stable condition at hospital.

According to reports, at around 8.30 pm on Saturday, Jamal Carrie and Kern Thomas were among a group of men playing cards on Jackson Hill, Laventille, when two armed men approached the group. The men opened fire, shooting both men about the body. The men were rushed to hospital where the both underwent emergency operations.

The shooting incident happened just 24 hours after the life of a Laventille man was claimed in a similar manner. On Friday night a 31-year-old plumber was shot and killed while playing cards outside his home. Augustine Hernandez of Ovin Alley, Laventille, died while undergoing emergency surgery following the shooting incident. Police have deemed the death of Hernandez a revenge hit and have indicated that an arrest will soon be made. Investigators believe Saturday night’s shootings were gang-related.
