Long delay in Guy’s appointment, too
THE EDITOR: Mr Michael Williams launched his successful political career and became President of the Senate under the NAR with a letter. In that letter in 1986, he wrote to Archbishop Desmond Tutu exhorting him not to come here then before the elections that were due, as the government of the day was sure to use the visit as an endorsement of its legitimacy.
His most recent letter “Unjust treatment of CoP Snaggs” regrets the long period before his appointment. I remind Mr Williams that in 1997 the UNC/NAR government extended the term of CoP Noor Kenny Mohammed for a maximum of three one-year-at-a time extensions. Why? As Mr Panday said he was serving well and they wanted continuity. Even after the first year ended and no other extension was granted to Mr Mohammed, it took a long time before Mr Guy was eventually confirmed in the position. I am requesting Mr Williams to point out for me similar letters of protest by him or many other convenient supporters of Mr Snaggs for the long delay in the appointment of Mr Guy who along with Mr Snaggs, the PNM government had seen as future Commissioners and had sent to England for special treatment.
