Gunman shot by police held at hospital

A Maloney man who was shot in a crossfire with police on Sunday was captured at the Arima District Health Facility while seeking medical attention.

According to investigations, on Sunday at around 6.30 pm, Maloney police responded to a call about a man walking near to Building 13 with a gun in his hand. Police challenged the man to hand over the gun but received gunfire instead. The police returned fire and shot the man, who escaped through a nearby building None of the officers were injured.

Sometime later, based on a report, police went to the Arima Health Facility and arrested a 21-year-old man of the area with a gunshot wound to his hand. After undergoing surgery, the suspect is resting in a stable condition under police guard at the same hospital. No gun or ammunition were recovered. The man is expected to appear at the Arima Magistrates’ Court today.
