Man attempts suicide after quarrel

A 34-YEAR-OLD man attempted to kill himself by ingesting a poisonous substance following a heated dispute with a female relative on Sunday.

At around 4.30 pm, Bertrand Drayton, of Sunrees Road, Penal, had an argument with the relative and subsequently drank a quantity of paraquat (a deadly weedicide). The woman found him lying on the ground frothing from the mouth and contacted an EHS ambulance. Drayton was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and remains warded in serious condition at Ward 11. Officers from Princes Town Police Station visited the scene and are continuing investigations.
