Bandit shot dead in attempted robbery

One man was shot dead by a security guard yesterday afternoon, as he and two others attempted to rob the Western Union branch at Food Masters Supermarket in Tunapuna.

Armed with revolvers, the three men entered the supermarket shortly after 4 pm, demanding money from the cashier. Eyewitness reports state that the security guard called on the bandits urging them to drop their weapons, but they refused and several shots were fired. Following the shooting, one bandit was dead, another was injured and later held in El Dorado, while the third man is still being hunted by the police. The cashier sustained a bullet wound to her ankle and was rushed to hospital.
