3 held in $1M El Socorro robbery
POLICE raided two houses on 7th Street, Morvant, and another on Thomasos Terrace, Arima where they arrested three persons and recovered $600,000 in computer accessories stolen from a businessplace in El Socorro last week. A warrant has also been issued for the arrest of two other persons who police believe will assist them in the recovery of the remaining items which include DVDs, monitors, CPUs, digital cameras, laptop computers and other accessories. The recovered items were part of a haul worth over $1 million which was stolen from PRWD Enterprises of Sadho Trace, El Socorro Extension, San Juan, last Tuesday.
Owner of the establishment, Shanty Wesson, had offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the items and arrest of anyone responsible for stealing them. The bandits had pulled up in a white panel van at the businessplace late that night and removed the items. Neighbours, seeing the action, thought it was employees who were working late. At around 4 pm on Monday, two parties of police officers went to Morvant and Arima simultaneously where they arrested a 20-year-old man in the north, a former employee of PRWD, and a 33-year-old computer technician/businessman and his wife, 41, in the east, with the stolen items. Police expect to arrest two others shortly in order to charge all five together with larceny. When contacted, owner/manager Shanty Wesson confirmed that information had led them to the recovery of the items. She said that machinery has already been put in place to pay the $25,000 reward to the tipster. Visiting the scene were Sgt Abraham and Ag Cpl James. Ag Cpl James is conducting the investigation.
