URP foreman riddled with 14 bullets

A 36-year-old URP foreman was shot 14 times while seated in a car at Lopinot Road, Arouca, on Thursday night.

Dale Winter’s death moved the murder toll up to 16 for the year. Reports revealed that around 8 pm, Winter, who lived at the home of his mother, intended to purchase some items from Vialva’s Bar with a male friend. According to reports, Winter and his friend were accosted by a gunman who crossed the bus route and walked in the direction of the car in which the two men were seated. The gunman fired 14 shots through the windshield of the car, striking Winter in the chest and legs.

The driver of the car fled the scene while Winter was being shot.
Patrons at the nearby bar looked on in horror as the gunman fired at Winter. An eyewitness told police investigators that the gunman simply walked away. A party of officers from the Arouca Police Station rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area. A futile search was carried out for the gunman. Winter’s body was viewed by a District Medical Officer and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

When Newsday visited Winter’s home yesterday, relatives refused to be interviewed. A female relative of the murder victim said the family had nothing to say. Several Lopinot villagers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Winter was involved in a lot of illicit activities. They added that he was threatened several times and knew that he was a man marked for death. They added that he “rubbed the wrong people the wrong way,” and paid for it with his violent death. Police investigators told Newsday the killer was watching Winter’s movements closely, and planned the execution.
