Student on assault charge gets bail
A 15-year-old student of Barrackpore Senior Secondary School was granted his own bail in the sum of $10,000 after he appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting another student. The accused teen pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Princes Town Magistrate Jai Narine.
It is alleged that on Wednesday morning, the accused was involved in a fight on the school compound with several students, including Fabien McDonald, 14. During the fight, MacDonald was struck on his head and fell to the ground unconscious. He suffered a concussion and was warded at the San Fernando General Hospital. He has since been discharged. The accused, a Form Two student, was arrested and charged by PC Rampersad of the Barrackpore Police Station. Yesterday prosecutor Cpl Zasheed Mohammed recommended a summary trial and the matter was adjourned to March 9.
