Morvant man shot dead

BOTH police and family believe the murder of humble “Jack of all trades” rastafarian Calvin Francis fondly called “Calli” was a case of mistaken identity.

“Calli never troubled anyone, his sole occupation was work and helping people” a grieving resident of Bascombe Lane, Never Dirty, Morvant where he was killed on Friday night told Sunday Newsday. “He was never into drugs or quarrel or any thing like that. Calli was tradesman of class who was always doing something or helping someone, he did not deserve to die like that,” cried another resident. “The person who shot Calli had an altercation with a man who looked like him and in the dark mistakenly shot him.”

According to reports at around 7.15 pm on Friday residents heard one shot which they though was a firecracker. On further investigation Francis’ body was discovered. Sources said Francis was cutting steel under a neighbour’s house when he decided to take a break. Minutes after a shot rang out and a 27-year-old former resident was seen fleeing from the area. A taxi driver later reported that shortly after the shooting he was highjacked by a man who ran out the street into his car and placed a still warm smoking gun to his neck, ordering him  to be taken to Morvant Junction. Inspector Ancil Coa is spearheading inquiries.
