Spiritual Baptists march for peace in Laventille

A passionate gathering of Spiritual Baptists yesterday hosted a Peace Prayer March through the streets of Laventille in an attempt to quell the violence which now “plagues” the area.

The congregation, which is associated with the Spiritual Healing School Spiritual Baptist Church of Marcella Street Success Village Laventille, was led by Grand Abbyes Ann-Marie Simon. According to Simon, “All churches from around the country must unite in order to heal the nation.” Simon said that the Holy Spirit gave her a vision in which she was guided to have the march. According to Sister Yvonne Davis, the church was led by the Holy Spirit to have similar marches in the past.

After making numerous failed attempts to bring several churches together to participate, she and her congregation decided to march regardless of the level of support. “The nation! My people of Laventille!” shouted Simon as her words were echoed by the gathering. The sound of singing, clapping and bell ringing could be heard throughout Eastern Quarry Street, Old St Joseph Road and Prizgar Lands as the group was “led by the spirit.” The group also marched around the Success Laventille Secondary Composite School in reaction to the recent reports of violence in schools.
