Prayers and parade for Woodbrook’s 100 years

Legal Affairs Minister, Prakash Ramadhar attended the event as well as deputy Port-of-Spain Mayor, Keron Valentine who addressed the congregation gathered at Adam Smith Square, Woodbrook, for the service and parade.

He was speaking on behalf of Port-of-Spain Mayor, Louis Lee Sing who was away on official business. Valentine commended the community for choosing to celebrate the milestone in style.

“Your full week of activities must serve as an incentive to other communities with the city to demonstrate while our city grapples with its developmental pains there are aspects to Port-of- Spain that are worthy of recognition and celebration,” he said.

He applauded the work of the recently incorporated Woodbrook Community Association which plans to extend the week of celebrations into the month of November when the actual anniversary occurs.

President of the Inter-Religious Organisation Emrol, Gould delivered the homily and urged members of the newly formed association to incorporate their best ideas to ensure the proper development of Woodbrook.

He noted the community has grown to be a centre of sports, culture, religious activities and most recently, a centre of commerce.

Representatives of the Christian, Hindu, Orisha, Muslim and Baha’i faiths all offered prayers and words of encouragement to the Woodbrook community.

St Patrick’s church choir and pannist, Johann Chuckaree provided musical pieces to add to the morning’s worship.

Members of the Cadet Force, Fire Services and the Prisons Service paraded past Ramadhar and Valentine who received the salute on Ariapita Avenue then went through some streets in Woodbrook before returning to Adam Smith Square.
