Chaguanas Mayor on the right track
THE EDITOR: I attended, as an observer, the last Statutory Meeting of the Council of the Chaguanas Borough Corpora-tion which was held at the auditorium of the Chaguanas Junior Secondary School on January 27, 2004. The overall attendance can be described as favourable and the proceedings impressive and informative. Regular Statutory meetings which are scheduled for once per month are open to the general public, but this opportunity is not taken full advantage of.
This move to take the meeting to the people by holding it outside the Council Chamber is quite laudable and for this I congratulate and commend his Worship The Mayor Alderman Dr Surujrattan Rambachan and other members of his Council. This I did when I was chairman of the new defunct Caroni County Council, with excellent response from the public. It is necessary that the burgesses of Chaguanas, like the other Corporations in the country, be aware of the role and function of the Council and of its plans and programmes. It’s a way of reporting to the burgesses. Such a move provides an ideal opportunity.
His Worship the Mayor has announced that such a meeting was the first in a series to be held outside the Council Chamber. I do hope that the other meetings will take place in one of the communities of Enterprise, Cunupia, Longdenville, Charlieville or Felicity to cater for the burgesses there. An observation of note was the absence of the media (paper nor electronic) at the meeting and it is hoped that this will not be the case at other such meetings. Keep up the good work Your Worship.
