TTUTA must clean up its act
THE EDITOR: I looked on in amusement at the TTT talk show on the morning of Tuesday January 27, 2004 when TTUTA’s president, Mr Trevor Oliver sought to berate television stations for airing programmes that promoted negative moral standards. He spoke about a woman, Brooke who slept with a father and son in one of these programmes. Mr Oliver and our union (I am a teacher) however have maintained a stony silence about the 28-year-old female teacher from a south school who was recently suspended for carrying on a sexual relationship with her 17-year-old male student.
Mr Oliver should also pay attention to some of his associates and members of the very union he heads. He will discover that though they are married, they openly carry on with behaviour that is similar to that which he is condemning. He cannot refute this or has he turned a blind eye because he believes that we teachers are untouchable. Clean up our union’s act Mr Oliver before complaining about TV shows. Our union represents teachers and we should be role models for our students.
