Women footballers in Anguilla action today
Trinidad and Tobago’s Under-19 women football team will kick-off their Caribbean Football Union (CFU) preliminary round qualifiers against Anguilla today at Webster Park, Anguilla, the first match of a home-and-away tie. The return leg will be staged on February 15 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna. Seasoned player Nadia James will don the captain’s armband for the match with coach Jamaal Shabazz, at Friday’s final training session at the Tunapuna venue, upbeat about his team’s chances.
“I think we have a good team and everyone is eager and raring to go,” he said. “Although we are playing away from home we are looking towards having a good result.” Admitting that his technical staff, comprising assistants Marlon Charles, Izler Browne and Kestor Lendore, have heard little about their opponents, Shabazz noted: “We will start the match cautious, we’ll watch them a little bit and take the game from there.... but I don’t think there is any team in the Caribbean that is far superior to ours.” Key players in the TT lineup are striker Maylee Attin-Johnson, midfielders Aveann Douglas and Nyasha Reyes, and defenders James and Katrina Meyer.
