Two killed in Barataria crash
Two persons were killed in a vehicular accident in Barataria early yesterday. Dead is 50 year old Hollis Nurse, driver of one of the vehicles, and an unidentified pedestrian. At about 5.30 am, an Amalgamated Security vehicle was proceeding north along Third Avenue, Barataria, when it collided with another van headed in the opposite direction. Nurse, who was in the Amalgamated vehicle, died on the spot.
One of the vehicles knocked down a man who was standing on the sidewalk. A passenger in the other vehicle, Renee Basdeo, was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he is reported in a serious condition. Investigating officers told Newsday the traffic lights in the area have not been working for the past two weeks. They said several mishaps have occurred in the vicinity of the traffic lights. They believe the malfunctioning lights may have been the cause of yesterday’s fatality. WCpl Alexander of the Barataria Police Station is investigating the incident.
