Brown wins season opener

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas:  Trinidad and Tobago teenage flash Darrel Brown whipped his field to win the 60 metre dash at the Tyson Invitational here on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Trinidadian trailed American Mickey Grimes early but powered to the line in a time of 6.59 seconds in his first time on the track since last year. Grimes held on for second in 6.61 and Jamaican runner Steve Mullins clocked 6.65 in finishing third. At the same meet, Olympic gold medallist Gail Devers scored a notable double, capturing the 60 metres and the 60-metre hurdles. Devers started quick to win the 60 in 7.10 seconds, and she returned to take  the hurdles in 7.87 seconds, the third-fastest time in the world this year. Another Olympic gold medallist Allen Johnson won the men’s 60-metres  hurdles clocking in 7.56 seconds, after being beaten into fifth in the 60 metres earlier.
