TT smother Anguilla 12-0 in second leg qualifier
STRIKERS Maylee Attin-Johnson and Aveann Douglas each scored hat-tricks yesterday as Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 women footballers thrashed Anguilla 12-0 in their second leg CONCACAF U-19 World Cup qualifier.
Approximately 200 fans at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Tunapuna, saw Dernelle Mascall, Jamilia Mathlin, Sherva Charles and Ayanna Russell add one goal apiece in the demolition job, while there were two own-goals. Douglas got things going in the fourth minute, sent clear by Attin-Johnson, when she powered her right-footer past Anguillan goalkeeper Keturah Caines. Attin-Johnson doubled the score in the 11th, turning in the penalty box and shooting past Caines from a Russell right-side centre. Douglas tapped into the open net in the 14th after Caines failed to hold a left-side ball, Attin-Johnson got her second in the 19th when, from a through ball by defender Kia Rigsby she shot home.
Mascall’s shot following a rebound off defender Kericia Barry flew past Caines in the 25th and Attin-Johnson got her third eight minutes later while Mathlin rounded Barry on the right and slid the ball home from a tight angle in the 35th. Five goals were registered in the second stanza, a Russell right-side cross was deflected home by Melissa Carty in the 52nd, substitute Charles buried her left footed blast in the 76th , and a Charles attempt in the 82nd went in courtesy Barry. Douglas tapped her shot past Caines for her third in the 86th and Russell completed the rout in the 88th.
