Guyana win second in row
GEORGETOWN: Guyana beat the West Indies “B” by an innings and four runs just before tea yesterday, the final day of their sixth-round Carib Beer Cricket Series match at Enmore.
West Indies “B” succumbed for 187 runs, four short of the total needed to make Guyana bat again. They team were bowled out for 228 in their first innings in reply to Guyana’s 419. Guyana’s spin duo of Neil McGarrell and Mahendra Nagamootoo picked up six wickets between them and Rayon Griffith grabbed two.
A crowd of about 800 spectators watched a last wicket partnership of 66 between Dwight Washington and Ryan Austin. Washington, who bowled well in Guyana’s first innings on a dead Enmore track, smashed six sixes and two fours in an innings of 58 from as many deliveries. His 50 came in only 39 balls, one of the fastest this season in the annual West Indies tournament.
