Morvant/Laventille girls win in schools b-ball
MORVANT/LAVENTILLE Secondary beat an improved Holy Name Convent 34-20 in a girls Open Division NGC/Express Schools Basketball League, North Zone match at the Jean Pierre Sports Complex yesterday. After their Under-20 boys ripped league debutantes Basilon Street Youth Facility to shreds 139-12 on Friday, the Morvant/Laventille girls were keen not to be outdone with Candace La Borde scoring a game-high 21 points. Nerisa Holder put in 12 points for the convent girls. In the second match yesterday, Diego Martin Government Secondary kept Basilon Street on a low key when their girls open outfit outscored them 29-9, after leading 12-5 at the end of the first half. Diego Martin’s Suelin Tang gave an energetic performance scoring a game high 14 points.
The third game saw defending Girls Open Division champs Malick Secondary score an easy 26-8 over International School of Port-of-Spain who are lstill ooking for their first win of the season. Reigning North Zone Under-20 kings Tranquillity trailed throughout their game 21-14, 35-27 and 56-51 after the intervals, but stepped up a gear in the final quarter to finish 77-74 winners. Tranquility’s Kern Samuel scored a game-high 29 points, Brian Cumberbatch added 14 and Keron Andrews 12, while Dexter Holder scored 21 points and Rondell Lazamar 10 for Malick. Games continue on Wednesday.
