Barbados recovered from the perilous position of 110 for five wickets to 285 all out yesterday against Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the first day of their seventh round Carib Beer Series  regional cricket clash at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

By the close the locals had replied with 40/1 off  their five overs.
SCORES: Barbados 285 versus TT 40/1. After bowling out he Barbadians late in the day, the home team was left with a  tricky five overs to negotiate at the end of play in which time they lost skipper Daren Ganga. The West Indies batsman was bowled by a delivery from Pedro Collins that swung back to breach his defence.

However, the captain’s younger brother Sherwin, playing in only his second match, executed some sterling shots to remain unbeaten on 21 with nightwatchman  Rayad Emrit who is 14 not out. Earlier TT won the toss and decided to put the Barbadians in. In the first hour it was all Barbados as openers Martin Nurse and Kurt Wilkinson took the attack to the bowlers. They carried their first wicket association to 62 runs before being parted.

Fast bowler Marlon Black precipitated a slide that saw four wickets fall for the addition of 13 runs. Black sent back Wilkinson for 26 and impressive off-spinner Amit Jaggernauth followed with the wicket of Nurse for 31. Sherwin Campbell, who scored an unbeaten double hundred in the last match against the Leewards, was then trapped in front by Jaggernauth for eight.

The score at that point read 71 for three and soon it was 75 for four as Dave Mohammed removed the dangerous Floyd Reifer for one.
Ryan Hinds was joined by West Indies batsman Dwayne Smith who played a cameo innings in taking the score to 110. Smith struck two powerful sixes in his 25 runs before holding out to Jaggernauth.Skipper Courtney Browne was next in and together with Hinds added 95 runs for the sixth wicket. Both batsmen played some bold strokes with Browne the more aggressive.

Hinds was fortunate to be given a chance by Sherwin Ganga on 34 and carried on to exactly 50 before being run out by Daren Ganga. His innings lasted 142 minutes in which time he faced 102 balls and struck nine fours. Tino Best then joined his captain but could not keep him company as Mohammed sent him back for one and even at that stage Barbados were in trouble at 215 for seven. However Browne who brought up his half century in 86 minutes off 70 balls with eight fours and a  six, was to feature in another good partnership.

The experienced Pedro Collins came in and played a very mature innings, as he added 48 runs for the eight wicket with Browne.
He fell leg before to Dwayne Bravo for 25 and Corey Collymore by left to see Browne to his fourth regional century. Collymore was run out for ten and Browne was the last wicket to fall caught by Jaggernauth at slip off Marlon Black for 98. His innings lasted 202 minutes, occupied 142 balls and was spiced with 16 fours and one six.

Jaggernauth was the best of the Trinidad and Tobago bowlers with three for 75 that took his tally to 28 for the season. Bravo with one for 62 also took his haul to 28 and there were two wickets apiece for Mohammed and Black. Play on the second day today begins at 10 am.
